THREE brothers from Forest Hill will break their ‘year without beer’ today, taking their first sip of alcohol in 12 months at the eldest’s birthday dinner.
Josh and Brendan decided to join big brother Daniel in taking a year off of alcohol in October last year, after a couple of nights out drinking triggered Daniel’s epilepsy.
At the same time, the men vowed to raise money for the Epilepsy Foundation of Victoria, setting themselves a target of $30,000.

Three weeks in their tally hit $10,000, and with their final big fundraiser still to come, they’re already just hundreds away from the finish line.
Brendan said a lot of family and friends rallied around the fundraiser, while the brothers each undertook a range of small projects to accrue money for the charity.
Daniel ran a ‘purple sock’ round at his local footy club and Brendan ran a collection campaign at the gym where he works.
Their final fundraising effort will be a ‘First beer in a year’ celebration at the The Albion in South Melbourne on Sunday, October 14.
The Close brothers have organised live music and a comedian to entertain.
A $20 donation will be required at the door. For more information about the public event visit bit.ly/2NYXKed.
