THEY broke a 45-year-old scoring record and one player bagged 22 goals in a 329-point rout, but it wasn’t enough to take Forest Hill to the top of the table in division four of the Eastern Football League.
Forest Hill’s 54.26 was the highest score in the EFL since 1971 and Matthew Carnelley led the way, kicking 22.3.
The final score at Forest Hill Reserve was 54.26 (350) to 3.3 (21).
But the win only took Forest Hill to fourth on the table — albeit with a percentage of 423 — after two rounds.
Carnelley backed up his seven goals from round one with an outstanding exhibition of goalkicking.
Luke Harley got five for the Zebras and David Smyth four, with 13 players in total kicking goals for the winners.
Tate Nicholls got two for the Lions.
Nunawading was always expected to struggle this term as it hastily assembled a playing list just weeks before the season opened.
Its first two games have underlined that reality, its percentage sitting at a miserable 4.33.
