Commuters taking a busy train line in Melbourne’s southeast are facing major disruptions after a truck smashed into a bridge.

Buses are replacing trains on the Glen Waverley line between Darling and Glen Waverley stations after a truck drove into the Warrigal Rd bridge near Holmesglen Station on Wednesday about 3.45pm.

Trains are operating between Darling and Flinders St, with delays to services expected.

Passengers should consider catching a Route 743 bus from Glen Waverley to connect with trains at Glen Iris or with Alamein Line trains at Ashburton.

A Department of Transport spokesman urged passengers to check station platform displays, listen for announcements, and allow extra time.

Motorists passing the Warrigal Rd bridge are warned to be vigilant as extra pedestrians and buses are expected around train stations on the Glen Waverley Line.

“Our signals team is monitoring conditions and will adjust traffic lights as needed to assist with bus movements along the Glen Waverley Line,” the spokesman said.

More to come.
