A 1950s-style all-American diner in Melbourne’s east has announced it will be serving its last cheeseburger and shake this weekend.
The Fonzie’s Diner’s owners announced the retro Canterbury Rd would be closing after opening five years ago.
“Drom the beginning we’ve poured our heart and souls into making it a memorable place for people to visit,” a Facebook post from owners said.
“Unfortunately Covid hit not long after we opened and since then we’ve been chasing our tail.
“We’re all devastated to see it go and to say goodbye to all the faces and friendships of everyone that has spent any time in our little diner.”
The owners announced the diner would be open “as normal” on the weekend and would close on Sunday evening.
“Please pop down and say hello or goodbye, have a hotdog and milkshake, or cruise down one last time, we’ll be there,” the post read.
“We will also be opening the door to sell our collection of collectables if there’s anything you’ve ever had your eye on.”
Fonzies Diner opened in 2019, with retro-themed decor and classic cars parked out front.
At the time, owner Tiarnie Brasher said her family opened the diner in memory of her late brother Corey.
“We had a bit of a family tragedy when my brother (Corey) passed away last year, so we started looking for something to get us up and off our feet, do something that we love,” she said in 2019.
“My brother and I always talked about opening our own cafe together. It was our dream.
“So this is something for mum, dad and I together.”
