Stylus rose from the ashes of the iconic Swagman restaurant but forged its own legacy from great music acts, pumping dancefloors, free flowing drinks and the ever-helpful free courtesy bus home.

Partygoers in the east flocked to the Burwood Highway venue every weekend in the ‘90s and the early ‘00s.

The warehouse-sized venue had four different levels, setting the mood for anything from an underground techno rave to casual drinks in the cocktail lounge.

Live music acts packed out the huge bandroom until the early hours on Sunday morning.

The easiest way to head home was to hop on the free curtesy bus that dropped you off anywhere within a 20km radius.

Stylus closed in the early ‘00s, replaced by an Aldi store.

Former manager of Stylus Damian De Jong threw a reunion for the beloved venue in 2009 at the Middle Hotel.

It is one of many lost nightclubs in the eastern suburbs including Dakota, Jooce, The Pool Room and more.
