Thousands of keen cricketers have donned their whites on hot summer weekends to bat for the Croydon North Cricket Club in the past 100 years.
The club has held up several premiership flags, including retaining the flag from the 1989 season to the 1992 season.
Club member Shaun Koster said his club was “one of the most successful in the east”.
“We have been right up their competing at the top of the competition for a lot of our history,” he said.
“The club has seen some incredibly talented players and had some dedicated club men and women who have worked so hard to support the club.”
Mr Koster said the pandemic was a difficult time for local sports but the club was focused on rebuilding.
“We have four senior teams but would love to get more people back playing cricket again,” he said.
“We are always looking for new players to join.”
Croydon North was one of the first clubs in the east to have a women’s team in the 1980s — which went on to win the flag in 1989 — but a lack of registrations saw the team disbanded.
“We would love to build towards having another women’s team,” Mr Koster said.
To celebrate their centenary, the Croydon North Cricket Club will be hosting a gala dinner, with all players and club people past and present welcome.
The Gala dinner will be held on February 8 at the Chirnside Park Country Club and the team of the century will be revealed.
