Diners and shoppers can park for free at Box Hill Central on weekends, and enter a competition to win a car, as management tries get customers back to the centre.
Traders have reported a 50 to 60 per cent drop in business as fear of coronavirus continue to take hold.
Whitehorse Council is offering free parking near the centre, with centre management Vicinity now doing the same.
Free carparking will be available at Box Hill Central’s north building — entry via Prospect St — and south building — entry via Station St or Carrington Rd — all day every Saturday and Sunday this month.
Vicinity regional manager Andrew Drivas said centre management had installed hand sanitisers to encourage good hygiene practice.
“We know concern about the spread of coronavirus, as well as some misinformation in the community, has had some impacts on customer visitation to our centre,” he said.
He said centre management continued to monitor advice from government health departments and had increased cleaning schedules.
