Neighbours say a Chadstone man has cost them thousands of dollars in damages after he allegedly set apartment block bins on fire and graffitied their homes in a series of horror incidents.
Paul Anderson, 65, appeared before the Ringwood Magistrates Court and applied for bail.
He was arrested in the early hours of Tuesday morning after he allegedly set 12 bins on fire outside his Chadstone apartment block.
Neighbours noticed the fire – which had engulfed the bins, the fence and nearby bushes – just after midnight.
The court heard the flames caused extensive damage and reached above the fence line.
One man, who was house-sitting at one of the neighbouring apartments, allegedly spotted Mr Anderson starting the fire.
However, the 65-year-old denied setting the fire when he was interviewed by police after his arrest.
Mr Anderson was on bail at the time he allegedly lit the fire for other incidents involving his neighbours in 2024.
The court heard he spray painted “f — k off” and other words onto a neighbour’s home which cost more than $4000 to repair.

He was also charged with puncturing the fly screen on a neighbour’s door, contravening personal safety intervention orders his neighbours took out on him, stealing two security cameras installed on the apartment block and threatening to kill another resident.
“Your gonna die tonight,” Mr Anderson allegedly said.
“You got weapons?”
Mr Anderson’s bail application was refused.
He will return to court later this month.
