Casey: Two woman leave attempted robbery scene in car allegedly stolen in Clayton

A car allegedly stolen from the Clayton railway station was spotted at the scene of an alleged attempted robbery and assault in Casey about four hours later.

Two bungling women allegedly assaulted a staff member at a shopping centre before fleeing the scene of the failed shoplifting attempt in a car allegedly stolen by a wannabe accomplice earlier that day.

Police believe a man allegedly stole the white 2002 Toyota Hilux utility from the Clayton railway station about 12.15pm on May 8.

The vehicle, registration SCY 960, was spotted outside a Casey shopping centre about 4pm.

The two women had allegedly tried to steal items from a shop at the Narre Warren-Cranbourne Rd complex.

One of the women allegedly assaulted a staff member before the pair got in the waiting Hilux and sped off.

Police believe the Hilux was being driven by the same man who allegedly stole it.

He is described as caucasian, and was wearing a short sleeve grey hoodie, white T-shirt, dark shorts, red and grey Asics runners, and was carrying a backpack.

The first woman is described as caucasian with long dark hair, solid build, wearing three-quarter length jeans, black jumper, dark beanie and white runners.

The second woman is described as caucasian with long dark hair, solid build, wearing three-quarter length jeans, black jumper, dark beanie and white runners.

Investigators have released images of the vehicle and two women they wish to speak with who they believe may be able to assist with their inquiries.

Victoria Police spokeswoman Scout Rigoni said investigators were hoping someone might have seen the vehicle or recognised the women.
