A sex offender previously convicted of sexually abusing a child under the age of 16 has been caught befriending a neighbour with a three-year-old daughter.
Bradley McIntosh, 25, pleaded guilty at the Ringwood Magistrates’ Court on May 14 to failing to tell police about new contact he’d made with a child in his Burwood apartment building.
Court documents described how McIntosh established contact with the girl’s mother mid-last year and failed to report his new interactions with the woman and her daughter to police as required by law.
McIntosh had not told the woman about his past child sex convictions, the documents noted, and the woman was only alerted to his criminal history once a Department of Health and Human Services child protection officer, acting on a tip from the public, intervened and visited her to disclose the information.
McIntosh later failed to show up to an arranged meeting with Box Hill police, according to the documents, and he neglected to keep them updated on his new living arrangements.
He also pleaded guilty to attempting to evade police while riding a stolen motorbike in Boronia on April 28 this year.
Police noted in their report to the court that McIntosh’s behaviour was becoming “extremely erratic”.
“The accused is on the register for offending against children and has gone on to have frequent contact with a young child, knowing that he is not to have any contact with children,” the documents noted.

“(He) is observed to be extremely erratic due to his regular drug use, making him increasingly hard for police to manage.”
Magistrate David Starvaggi warned McIntosh he must adhere to his reporting obligations and sentenced him to 40 days’ jail, with 16 days’ presentence detention declared time served.
He also disqualified McIntosh from driving for six months.
“Going forward that legislation is very strict for a reason, you must obey it,” Mr Starvaggi said.
