Box Hill South: family home broken into twice in five months

A traumatised Box Hill South mum arrived home from her young daughter’s swimming lesson to find her house covered in blood and swarming with police — with the alleged burglar still inside. And it’s not the first time their place has been broken into.

A Box Hill South family have been left traumatised after their home was broken into twice in less than five months.

The mother, who did not want to be identified, arrived home with her five-year-old early yesterday afternoon to find police swarming her bloodstained house.

“We came home from swimming to find police everywhere, (someone) being detained inside our house, and (someone’s) blood all over our house,” she said.

The family’s glass doors were smashed.

The mother-of-four said she found “a sink full of blood” in her bathroom, alongside her children’s toothbrushes, and blood on the floor of her upstairs bedroom.

Police were inside the house with a woman, who had allegedly entered by smashing the glass doors at the back of the house with a shovel.

It is believed the blood was the result of the woman cutting herself as she entered the house.

The homeowner said her “incredible” neighbour heard a noise next door and called in the incident, which had left her family “severely traumatised”.

“Our five-year-old is too scared to go to her own room now.”

The family have already gone through one break-in trauma, when someone ransacked their home while they were asleep less than five months ago.

“We woke up in the morning and my husband said, ‘where’s my wallet?’”

“And then suddenly I realised his wallet was missing, my bag was missing, all of our car keys were missing. All of my work equipment was missing from my car.”

She said the offender jimmied a window open, while a door may also have been left unlocked.

The family have CCTV, but she said police had not apprehended anyone for the theft.

The family-of-six have lived in the area for 13 years and had never been broken into before the first break-in.

“It’s like what do we do now? Do we move to a gated community or a high-rise with security at the front or something?” she said.

“Do we cage the back of the house?”

“We don’t care about property — it’s all about the safety of the kids.”

A Victoria Police spokeswoman, who refused to be named, said a 37-year-old Boronia woman had been charged in relation to an alleged burglary of an unoccupied house in Box Hill South about 12.45pm on August 14.

“The woman was transported to hospital with minor injuries for treatment under police guard.”

She has been bailed to appear before a Magistrates’ court.
