Aldi opens at Blackburn Square Shopping Centre, more shops, restaurants on the way

Bargain hunters are in luck with the opening of a new Aldi in Blackburn North, with more shops and restaurants on the way as part of a $40m upgrade to the shopping centre.

Customers can use self-serve check-outs at the new Aldi at Blackburn Square.

Aldi has opened its doors at Blackburn Square Shopping Centre, with customers able to use self-serve check-outs at the flash new store.

The discount supermarket opened its doors at the Blackburn North centre on Wednesday, creating 15-20 new full and part time jobs.

And there’s no rush for customers to pack their own bags while their groceries get tallied up at the register, thanks to self-serve check-outs.

Whitehorse Councillor Blair Barker posted online: “used it, it works well, then found myself asking myself “would you like a catalogue?” Welcome to the ‘hood Aldi!”

There are an exclusive range of special buys at the store for the grand opening including a woodfire pizza oven for $139 and a king size electric blanket for $44.99.

The store will also offer customers access to more than 800 parking spaces.

Blackburn Square centre manager Stan Crinis said the shopping centre was pleased to welcome Aldi to the centre, joining Coles and Woolworths.

“In the coming weeks we will be opening many new stores including new casual dining and specialty shops, as well as Jetts 24 hour Gym, Little Mandarin Yoga & pilates and Good Start Early Learning,” he said.

New dine-in and takeaway eateries include China Bar, Zambrero, 3 Boys Pizza, Fat Jak’s, Sashimi King, Souvlaki GR and more.

There are also improvements underway for the centre’s carpark, which has come under fire from shoppers.

“The carpark works will create a safer and more efficient space for all users,” the centre posted online.

“Upon completion, there will be a consistent flow of traffic around the centre.”
