Police have foiled two large cannabis grow operations in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs — including seizing nearly $1m in crops — but officers are yet to arrest the culprits.
Croydon detectives uncovered two large-scale hydroponic cannabis set ups at factory sites in Scoresby and Bayswater.
Inside they found 393 cannabis plants weighing an estimated 590kg with a street value of $950,000.
Investigators discovered the Bayswater factory yesterday after a search warrant was executed on the Scoresby factory earlier this week.
Police believe the two crop houses are linked and the investigation is ongoing.
Detective Inspector Glen Cruse said the operation was “highly sophisticated”.
“These crop houses are highly sophisticated and clearly set up to generate maximum profit for organised crime groups,” he said.
“We believe these factories are linked and part of a wider, co-ordinated network actively operating across Melbourne’s eastern suburbs.”
No arrests have been made in relation to the grow operations.
“This is a significant seizure, and we’ll continue to apply pressure,” he said.
“It’s only a matter of time before we’re knocking on the door of those responsible.”.
