Toby Clack — Ballarat

Dux of St Patrick’s College Toby Clack was elated when he logged on and saw he had been accepted into Melbourne University’s biomedicine degree.

He plans to celebrate with his family over the next few days.

“It’s a big relief to know that all of the hard work has paid off,” he said.

“I was feeling pretty confident after I got my ATAR that I would get in but it’s still really exciting to be accepted.”

He received an ATAR of 99.25.

Toby also learned he had been accepted into one of the campus colleges for accommodation at the university in 2023, but hopes to be able to take a gap year.

He has overseas sporting commitments to play eight-ball but said he would prioritise study if he needed to.

“If I can’t defer biomedicine then I will go to university next year, it’s not a big deal, I’m just thrilled I got in,” he said.

Isabella Gilchrist — Swan Hill

St Mary MacKillop College Swan Hill’s dux was ecstatic to get accepted into her first preference.

Isabella Gilchrist, who achieve an ATAR of 97.95, was accepted into the University of Melbourne — her first choice.

“Yeah I just checked my emails and I got accepted into Melbourne Uni, which was my first choice,” she said.

Ms Gilchrist is heading off to study biomedicine for the next four years after discovering a passion for it over the last few years.

“This year and last year I settled on biomedicine … I liked how it was a pathway into dentistry and medicine but it still interested me with the whole science aspect,” she said.

Mernda Central College’s inaugural dux Serey Grimes said she was delighted to receive her top preference in the first round of offers on Wednesday, after receiving an ATAR of 98.

“I was delighted to receive my first preference in this initial round of offers, which would be a Bachelor of Science at the University of Melbourne,” she said.

“I will hopefully further my Japanese language studies at University and I am hoping to pursue a career in medicine in the more distant future.”

Ms Grimes is the first dux ever at her school based in Melbourne’s northern suburbs, as the new secondary school graduated its first class of Year 12 students this year.
