A police officer from the Western Region will learn in May whether charges against him of sexually assaulting a woman will be dropped.
Constable Andrew Cussen, 30 of Strathfieldsaye, fronted Bendigo Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday charged with three counts of sexual assault.
Bendigo sexual offences and child-abuse investigation police unit allege Cussen sexually assaulted a woman in Bendigo in April, 2023 while the officer was off duty.
Mr Cussen’s lawyer Will Parker informed the court during an earlier appearance last month he would apply to have the charges against the officer dropped.
The matter was adjourned to allow negotiations to continue.
Mr Parker told the court during Wednesday’s mention the matter has not been resolved and sought another date.
The case was adjourned to May 22.
A Victoria Police spokesperson confirmed that Constable Cussen is currently suspended from the police force.
