Constable Andrew Cussen faces Bendigo Magistrate’s Court over sexual assault allegations

A police officer from the Western Region has moved to have allegations he sexually assaulted a woman in Bendigo dropped.

A police officer from the Western Region has moved to have allegations he sexually assaulted a woman in Bendigo dropped.

Constable Andrew Cussen, 30 of Strathfieldsaye, fronted Bendigo Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday charged with three counts of sexual assault.

Bendigo sexual offences and child-abuse investigation police unit allege Cussen sexually assaulted a woman in Bendigo in April, 2023 while the officer was off duty.

In court on Wednesday, Mr Cussen’s lawyer Will Parker said the defence would be applying to have the charges against the policeman dropped.

Mr Cussen appeared in court via video link, wearing a white collared shirt with a thin black tie.

Magistrate Dominic Lennon adjourned the matter to March as negotiations continue.

A Victoria Police spokesperson confirmed that Mr Cussen is currently suspended from the police force.
