Strathfieldsaye, a Bendigo suburb in Central Victoria, is a step closer to getting its long-awaited revamped multipurpose centre after a 13 year-long campaign.

Bendigo City Council has announced stage two of the redevelopment will start in August.

It will include an administration office and registration desk, refurbishments of the social area, bar, activity area, entrance, storage, and the trophy cabinet for the Golden City Pipe Band.

City of Greater Bendigo active and healthy communities manager Amy Johnston said the second stage was funded by council and $250,000 from 1st Strathfieldsaye Scouts.

“Stage two will include the redevelopment of the remainder of the building, including club facilities to support the relocation of the Strathfieldsaye Bowls Club and 1st Strathfieldsaye Scouts from their existing locations into the main hub building,” Ms Johnson said.

Stage one was finished in January and cost more than $1 million with $3.5 million spent so far on the project.

Stage one included four unisex bathrooms, and two unisex bathrooms for umpires.

The building was extended to include a bigger kitchen, storage areas for sport groups, accessible male and female toilets for spectators, user groups and public access.

Funding has not been allocated to stage three.

Stage two is expected to be completed by December 2023.
