Castlemaine Primary School has placed in the top 10 best performing regional schools in the state, based on the latest NAPLAN scores.
An independent analysis of newly-released 2022 NAPLAN results has revealed the schools that performed best in the Year 5 and Year 9 tests.
Castlemaine Primary School came in at number eight in the rankings, with an average score of 538.40.
It placed the school at the top for central Victorian primary school results.
It uses a “scaffolded instruction” technique also known as the “I do it, we do it, you do it” model, where the teacher presents a topic first, then works together with the children and then the pupils try it independently.
Nearly 600 regional primary schools were included in the ranking.
Every school’s NAPLAN results ranked
The scores were calculated by adding the scores for all five NAPLAN tests (reading, writing, spelling, numeracy and grammar) together. An average score was determined, and schools with 20 or fewer students were excluded.
Top primary school performers for central Victoria included Girton Grammar, in 23rd spot with an average score of 527.0, and Creek Street Christian College which came in 40th across the state with an average score of 518.80.
It was followed by Quarry Hill Primary School in 41st place with an average score of 518.60.
Maiden Gully Primary School was ranked 47th with an average score of 517.00.
Spring Gully Primary school was placed 50th with an average score of 516.20.
Castlemaine North Primary School was ranked 58, with a score of 515.6. Kennington Primary was ranked 75 with an average score of 512.80.

For the secondary school students, Girton Grammar School stood out in 24th place, with an average score of 589.20 for its Year 9 students.
Creek Street Christian College was placed at 27th with 587.00 as its average score.
Victory Christian College in Kennington was 44th with an average of 574.80.
Catherine McAuley College was 47th with an average score of 573.60.
Bendigo South East 7-10 Secondary College was 73rd with an average score of 568.60.
