A vile Bendigo sex offender with a history of vile acts who preyed on a young girl shook his head as he was sentenced for his evil act.

Raymond Leslie Dean, 61, pleaded guilty at Bendigo Magistrates Court on Wednesday to indecent assault on a child under 16.

In February 2007, the victim awoke to Dean lifting up her nighty to her stomach after he crept into her room as she slept.

She wasn’t wearing underwear and Dean had his face and hands between her legs, the court heard.

She told police she could “feel his breath” which caused her to scream and kick him in the head.

Dean told her “it’s OK, OK, please don’t tell anyone”.

She found her underwear on the floor and then went to the toilet and urinated and felt burning, and there was bleeding.

Dean then put the child’s underwear in a plastic bag and disposed of them in a public bin.

Dean initially denied the allegations, telling police the victim’s claims were “a load of bulls--t” and “it's all a setup”.

Dean lives in South Australia with his brother and is unemployed, receiving centrelink payments, the court heard.

He video linked into court on Wednesday, shaking his head as the allegations of his sexual predation on a child was read aloud in court.

In court on Wednesday, Dean said he would plead guilty to have the case finalised, but denied the offending took place.

Police prosecutor Matthew Hendry said Dean was obviously not remorseful for his “serious offending” against a “pubescent female”, and a “term of imprisonment is warranted”.

The court heard Dean had a long history of sexual offending and had been placed on the sex offenders' registry for life for his evil acts.

In 2014 he was jailed for 18 months for sexual offending in Geelong in 2012.

In 2021 he pleaded guilty to historic sexual abuse dating back to the 1980s and was given a suspended jail sentence.

However, as these convictions occured after the 2007 assault of a girl in Eaglehawk, they couldn’t be considered priors that could be weighted against his sentence.

Magistrate Russell Kelly accepted Dean’s plea, saying it had spared the victim from being forced to testify at a contested hearing where she would be brutally cross examined.

Mr Kelly found the charges against Dean proved, handing down a suspended jail sentence of six months suspended for two years.
