A Bendigo man has been bailed over his alleged involvement in the brutal bashing of his ex-girlfriend’s boyfriend, a court has heard.
Kane Wilson, 19, faced Bendigo Magistrates Court on Tuesday charged with unlawful assault and unlawful excuse of reckless causing of injury.
The court heard the boyfriend was allegedly bashed at Wilson’s home with the help of two underage co-accuseds.
Police allege on September 27 last year, the group were in a room referred to in court as a “bong room” when one of the co-accused allegedly threatened to stab the victim.
“I should f****** stab you,” the co-accused allegedly said before a fight broke out.
The court heard the co-accused also threatened to stab him if he didn’t hand over his watch and other belongings.
The victim was hit with a broomstick until it broke before he left the house.
His lawyer Christina Callaghan said Wilson had a tough childhood with an alcoholic mother and was eventually sent to live with his grandparents at the age of 4.
He was later diagnosed with an intellectual disability with a suspected IQ of 58 along with ADHD.
The court heard he was homeless but wanted to end his substance abuse.
Magistrate Sharon McRae released Wilson on bail under a string of strict measures.
She banned him from leaving Victoria, and said he must continue attending Youth Justice.
“We don’t want you in custody, we don’t want you doing these things, but it’s up to you,” the magistrate said.
