Shocking videos have emerged of student fights at a Bendigo public school, with one showing a mob of teens stomping and kicking a girl on the ground in a vicious gang bashing.
In two violent videos seen by the Herald Sun, about a dozen teenagers dressed in Weeroona College uniform are observed filming and cheering on two girls in a fight.
One of the girls tackles the other to the ground before three other students join in by stomping, kicking and hitting the girl on the floor.
The incident is believed to have occurred a year ago.
The videos have terrified parents who are urging the college to take action, fearing if such “disturbing” behaviour goes “unchecked”, it will only get worse.
“For far too long, parents have been reassured that bullying is not an issue at Weeroona College, yet the increasing reports and footage tell a very different story,” one parent told the Herald Sun.
”There is a toxic culture developing among some students, and it is only getting worse.
”These incidents are not isolated, and the lack of firm action has allowed this behaviour to continue unchecked.
“We demand to know what immediate steps the school is taking to address this situation.”
The parent called for the students involved in such incidents to “face serious consequences” and for the “authorities” to also get involved.
“Parents and the wider Bendigo community are deeply concerned,” the parent said.
“We expect a prompt response outlining the actions the school intends to take.”
In an email to parents, principal Jason Bysouth said the school was “committed to ensuring a safe and supportive culture at our school for all staff and students”.
Mr Bysouth told parents such incidents are “very rare” and did “not reflect the safe and supportive culture” at Weeroona College, “or the behaviour of the majority of our students”.
One parent described the email as an “absolute joke”.
“They don’t know how to keep their students safe — it has been like it for years. The bullying and violence, and it has never changed and never will,” they said.
“For the amount of posts of kids getting bashed at that school is ridiculous and they say they care about their students.”
A Department of Education spokesman said any form of violence was “entirely unacceptable”.
