A local hero has jumped into the lake to assist emergency services rescue two people after their car went into a Bendigo lake.

A car has driven straight into a lake in Bendigo this afternoon, with emergency crews led by the SES on scene rescuing those inside.
A local man, Xavier Bourke, jumped into the lake as well to help rescue them.
Emergency services were notified that a car had gone into Lake Weeroona at roughly 2.15pm.
There are two people inside the car, an elderly man and a woman.
The man is believed to have been driving.
