A Bendigo woman‘s dog has become a hero after stopping a would-be intruder last month.
The woman was home alone with her dog when she saw an unknown man at the back of her McCrae St address about 11.20pm on October 13.
The man, who remains on the run, entered her lounge room with a large knife in his hand.
He threatened the woman and made demands for cash before the woman’s dog lunged at the offender and grabbed his arm, before pulling him outside of the home.
The victim was able to lock the back door after her dog ran back inside with the man fleeing via the side gate in an unknown direction.
On Wednesday night, police released a computer-generated image of a man who they say can assist with their enquires.
The man is believed to be caucasian in appearance, about 180cm tall with a slim face, dark brown eyes and approximately 35-40-years old.
He was wearing a dark beanie, a black hoodie, blue jeans and a black coat at the time.
The knife he was carrying had serrated edges and a red handle.
Detectives are investigating whether the incident was a case of mistaken identity.
