The coveted position of Bendigo’s business of the year was crowned to a local fresh food wholesaler amid a competitive selection of nominations.
JL King & Co took home the top prize and won in several categories for their “foresight and commitment” as business leaders in their industry.
Seventy-three finalists were short-listed for 21 award categories in the 2024 Bendigo Business Excellence Awards.
Judges said JL King & Co stood out in challenging economic conditions for their successgrowing their business with new contracts and building a new state-of-the-art facility in Bendigo.
More than 700 well-to-do Bendigonians attended the gala awards night at Red Energy Arena on Thursday dressed to the nines to celebrate the success of local business.
“Bendigo is booming” Premier Jacinta Allan said as she kicked off the 29th annual awards for her hometown.
“We’re home to businesses that have made our city a household name,” she said.
Ms Allan said “community is the secret ingredient” to the 13 per cent growth in the Bendigo economy over the last five years.
“Doing business in a regional community is unlike doing business anywhere else in the state,” she said.
“Employees are your family and your customers are the people you run into at the school gate.”
Ms Allan credited Bendigo’s economic growth to the hard work of the more than 14,000 businesses across Bendigo that employs more than 80,000 people.
