An alleged Maryborough mugger has been charged with robbing women with a box cutter, slashing one and sending her to the hospital.
Gurlal Singh, 29, faced Bendigo Magistrates’ Court on Monday charged with robbing two women and stabbing one in Maryborough on Sunday night.
Police allege the man approached a 39-year-old woman on Tuaggra St, Maryborough about 6.30pm and demanded she hand over the keys to her car before “slashing her with a box cutter”.
The 39-year-old woman was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The accused mugger then allegedly robbed a 46-year-old woman about 7pm on High St, Maryborough while she was trying to deposit cash into an ATM.
He is accused of then fleeing the area in a taxi, before officers arrested him on the Pyrenees Highway.
The 29-year-old man was arrested and charged with carjacking with an offensive weapon, assault with intent to rob, intentionally cause injury, theft, deal with property suspected of being proceeds of crime, and weapon offences.
Mr Singh made no application for bail and he was remanded in custody ahead of his next court date at Maryborough Magistrates’ Court in May.
