Scott Barton faces court after woman killed, child seriously injured in Gippsland fatal

A man has been charged after he was allegedly driving a car that crashed and killed a woman and seriously injured a child.

A man has been charged with multiple driving offences after he allegedly behind the wheel of a car that crashed in the state’s east on Monday, killing his female passenger and seriously injuring a child.

Scott Barton was charged with dangerous driving causing death, dangerous driving causing serious injury, unlicensed driving and driving an unregistered car.

The 38-year-old is alleged to have been driving a Ford Falcon that crashed into a tree about 7.50pm on Rosedale Flynns Creek Rd in Flynn.

A 31-year-old woman travelling as a passenger died at the scene.

Another passenger, an 11-year-old boy, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Mr Barton was taken to hospital under police guard on Monday.

He appeared in Latrobe Valley Magistrates Court via video link from the Sale cells.

A mental health professional told the court Mr Barton’s behaviour when they spoke had been “out of control”.

He was remanded in custody and is set to make an application for bail this week.
