The Bass Coast will share in the State Government’s $5.3 billion public housing boost to build more than 12,000 new homes across the state.
The program will deliver secure, modern, and affordable homes throughout Victoria with 25
per cent of funding to be allocated to regional Victoria.
This includes a minimum of $25 million for the Bass Coast Shire.
State Member for Bass Jordan Crugnale MP said the investment will make the “world of difference” to people living in communities like Wonthaggi “who need the stability and safety to get ahead, feel connected and supported”.
“Everyone deserves a safe and secure place to call home – this record funding will deliver exactly that,” Ms Crugnale said.
The new homes will meet seven star energy efficiency standards, making them more comfortable all seasons and saving tenants on their power bills.
The investment will boost Victoria’s economic recovery, generating an estimated $6.7 billion in economic activity and supporting more than 18,000 jobs.
Minister for Housing Richard Wynne said it’s an investment for the future.
“We’re not just investing in bricks and mortar, but the lives of Victorians for decades to come,” Mr Wynne said.
New jobs will be created for women, Indigenous Victorians, people with disability, social housing tenants and people from diverse backgrounds.
10 per cent of the work on major projects will also be completed by apprentices, cadets and trainees.
