Seven CFA units respond to house fire on Reed Cr in Wonthaggi

Seven CFA units were called to deal with a house fire in Wonthaggi on Tuesday morning.

Seven CFA units were called to deal with a house fire in Wonthaggi on Tuesday morning, with the occupant escaping uninjured.

Police, the SES and seven CFA units from Wonthaggi, Dalyston and Inverloch attended the scene on Reed Cr in Wonthaggi just before 10am on Tuesday.

“Crews arrived to find a house fire burning,” a CFA spokesman said.

“Upon arrival flames had travelled through the roof cavity and underneath the dwelling.

The CFA spokesperson added that crews worked hard and had the fire contained within 30 minutes.

“Thank you to our local police unit from Wonthaggi in providing us some vital information whilst on route,” the spokesperson said.

“Thankfully the occupant was not injured — who was assessed by AV on scene.”

The incident was deemed under control at 10.07am and deemed safe at 10.38am.

The CFA spokesperson said hot ashes from a fireplace were put into a plastic wheelie bin, which after being placed outside, was what caused the blaze.

“This is a timely reminder for residents with fireplaces to ensure ashes are cold before disposing them into a plastic bin,” the spokesperson said.
