Police believe an incident where a man died after his boat capsized in East Gippsland was caught on camera and are appealing for the witness to come forward.

Emergency services responded to calls for help at Reeves Channel near Kalimna after several boats reported that two men were stranded in the water about 10am on March 25.

A 55-year-old man, who was visiting Australia from Vietnam, was pulled from the water unconscious.

“Despite the best efforts of good Samaritans, he died at the scene,” a police spokesperson said.

The second man, a 61-year-old from NSW, was treated by paramedics on scene but was not hurt.

Investigators are keen to speak to the man, described as caucasian and in his 50s, who they suspect filmed the fatal incident from a nearby jetty.

Anyone with more information or witnessed the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers Victoria on 1800 333 000, submit a confidential report online or call the Lakes Entrance police station on (03) 5155 1206.
