Man dies, another in hospital as boat capsizes in Reeves Channel near Kalimna

A man has died and another is in hospital after locals rushed to save the pair when the boat they were in overturned in the state’s east.

A man has drowned and another has been rushed to hospital after their boat capsized in the state’s east on Monday morning.

Emergency services responded to calls for help at Reeves Channel near Kalimna after several boats reported that two men were stranded in the water about 10am.

It is understood the two men, both from Traralgon set out from the Kalimna Lake entrance before their boat capsized soon after and drifted towards out the Kalimna jetty.

One man was pulled from the water unconscious and died at the scene, despite the efforts of locals who rushed to his aid.

The second man was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police will prepare a report for the coroner.
