An elderly woman has died in hospital following a crash on a busy street in the state’s southeast, where one vehicle ended up on the footpath and crashed into a building near a post office.
Emergency services were called to Church St, Traralgon just before 1.30pm Tuesday May 14 after a car crashed into a parked vehicle that no one was inside of.
“The parked vehicle then crashed into a building,” a police spokesperson said.
The spokesperson confirmed on Friday the driver, an 89-year-old Traralgon woman, was taken to hospital where she later died.
The crash has taken the state road toll to 114, compared to 119 lives lost this time last year.
Emergency services were also called to the scene of a multi-car crash on Shakespeare St at 8.40am that day.
It is understood a Mitsubishi Triton ute crashed into a parked car, causing damage to three parked cars.
“Officers were told the driver and sole occupant of the ute fled the scene on foot,” a police spokesperson said.
The male driver was described as caucasian in appearance, approximately 30-years-old, with a solid build and short blonde hair.
“He was wearing a black top, black shorts and was last seen heading towards the intersection of Riley Street and Allen Crescent,” the spokesperson said.
No one was injured during the crash and police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Anyone with further information, witnessed either incident or has dashcam footage is urged to contact Crime Stoppers Victoria on 1800 333 000, submit a confidential report online or contact the Traralgon police station on (03) 5172 2700.
