Two Phillip Island takeaway food businesses have been destroyed by a fire in an early morning blaze.
CFA fire fighters were called to Thompson Ave in Cowes after reports of a fire in a building occupied by Kim’s Bakehouse and Riley’s Fish n’ Chips around 2.15am on Saturday.
The blaze took around two hours to control with about 60 firefighters and 20 trucks on scene.
CFA commander Michael Magpiece told The Bass Coast News the wind had significant impact on controlling the fire.
“Both businesses are out of action,” he said.
“The fire has done a fair bit of damage to the building so they won’t be operating for quite some time.”
CFA managed to save neighbouring business Priceline Pharmacy after it was under “direct flame attack”.
Mr Magpiece said the cause of the fire was not suspicious but investigations were ongoing.
“Fortunately, no one was injured,” he said.
This is the second fire in Cowes within three weeks after MadCowes Cafe and Foodstore was destroyed on March 3.
