A Frankston man has been reprimanded after a punch-on in Phillip Island.

Former Phillip Island resident, Joshua Savage, 29, pleaded guilty at Korumburra Magistrates’ Court on April 26 to charges including unlawful assault.

The court heard Savage had an argument with a man over mobile phone on January 26, 2020.

After Savage found out the man was in Sunset Strip, he told the victim, “Alright c*** I see you soon”.

Savage drove to the Phillip Island town with his two mates and argued with the victim near the front door of the property.

Both men pushed one another and punches were thrown.

No injuries were sustained and Savage left with his mates.

In a police interview, Savage said the victim was being “threatening” over the phone.

“He came at me swinging the bat, I got the bat off him and threw it into the garden,” Savage said.

“It was self defence or whatever, punched him a couple of times.”

Savage’s lawyer Anthony Rosenhain said the father-of-two was drinking booze at the time of the offending.

“It was a bit of argy-bargy,” Mr Rosenhain said.

Mr Rosenhain said the former Phillip Island resident now lives in Frankston and is unemployed.

“He suffers attention deficit disorder,” he said.

“He needs treatment.”

Magistrate Simon Garnett said Savage’s offending was “not acceptable conduct”.

Savage was fined $1500.
