Parks and recreation in Bass Coast Shire get much needed funding
Exercise equipment, nature playgrounds and green spaces are on the way for Bass Coast after a $1m injection.

Three priority projects in the Bass Coast are one step closer to completion after it was announced much needed funds would be granted.
The projects are in different areas around Bass Coast and aim to support the communities growth.
Member for Bass Jordan Crugnale said the funding, from the government’s growing suburbs fund, would support the “fastest growing suburbs” in the area.
“We’re supporting our fastest growing suburbs to thrive by investing in the community infrastructure that is needed,” she said.
$1.4m is being invested across the three projects.
Rhyll Foreshore Playspace Stage 2 – $235,000
The Rhyll Playspace and Heritage Walk will provide an extension to the newly built Rhyll Playspace and a series of interpretative heritage signs will be installed along the Rhyll foreshore.
This project will be delivered towards the end of this year and the start of 2023.
Council made the grant request in July and was granted the full amount sought to move to stage two of the works.
Stage two will create a nature based playspace on the Rhyll foreshore for the community and visitors to enjoy.
The total cost of the project is expected to be $295,000, leaving Bass Coast Council to contribute $60,000.
Bass Coast Rail Trail – Wonthaggi Precinct – $388,000
The former Wonthaggi Railway Station, now home to the Wonthaggi and District Historical Society and Museum will benefit from a new front entrance to the Museum, taking full advantage of the heritage and beauty of the station.
The platform works supporting this project include the replacement of the existing retaining wall and glazed enclosure for the platform. It will provide a space for community and member events and allow for exhibitions and community gatherings.
It will also become a greater focal point of the Bass Coast Rail Trail and provide for static displays that can be appreciated outside Museum opening hours.
Bass Coast Council applied for much needed funds to enhance the Wonthaggi Railway Station Museum in July. They were granted the full $388,000 which has allowed this project to progress.
Council’s contribution will be $50,000 to bring it to a total cost of $438,000.
Anderson Street Reserve San Remo- Open Space Master Plan – $517,000
Anderson Street Reserve Master Plan will develop the site into a green area for the growing San Remo community to enjoy.
The plan includes a playspace, universal fitness area, rotunda, plantings for shade, accessible parking and pathways.
The total cost estimate for this project comes in at $617,000. The council will contribute $100,000 and the project will be delivered across the 2022/23 and 2023/24 financial years.
