A Moe man has been arrested after a unit was engulfed by flames in the state’s southeast.

A Latrobe Valley man has been arrested following a unit fire in Victoria’s southeast.

Emergency services were called to a property on High St in Moe after flames were seen coming from the building at 10.20am on Monday.

“A 29-year-old Moe man was arrested on Lloyd St and is currently assisting police with their inquiries,” a police spokesperson said.

“No one was inside the home at the time however the property sustained major damages.”

“Firefighters arrived on scene within four minutes and FRV crews wore breathing apparatus and attacked the fire,” an FRV spokesperson said.

“The power and gas companies were called to attend.

“The scene was handed to Victoria Police.”

The fire was deemed under control in seven minutes and an arson chemist attended the scene in the afternoon.

The exact cause of the blaze is yet to be determined and detectives are treating the incident as suspicious.
