Police treating building fire at First Newborough Scout Group on Torres St as suspicious

Firebugs have set a scout hall in Newborough on fire in the state’s east with investigators hunting for the culprits.

A scout hall in the state’s east has been deliberately set on fire with police on the hunt for culprits.

Emergency services were called to the scene at the First Newborough Scout Group on Torres St in Newborough at 5.20pm on Wednesday.

A police spokesperson said the cause of blaze was being treated as suspicious.

“There was a small amount of damage and no reports of injuries,” the spokesperson said.

A CFA spokesperson said units from Newborough and Moe, with the assistance of FRV, attended the scene and found the building with smoke issuing from the roof that was quickly extinguished.

The scene was deemed safe at 5:38pm and investigations remain ongoing.
