Thousands of Italian-spirited people made their way to a small Gippsland town’s vibrant festival on the weekend.

The Mirboo North Italian Festa is a free event held at the spacious Baromi Park, which welcomed guests from 10am on Sunday for a day full of delicious Italian food, culture music, dancing and entertainment — including magician Luigi Zucchini who performed.

Just an hour and a half from Melbourne, people experienced a food fest like they never have before.

There were lines of cars waiting to get into Mirboo North to attend the event last year, so arriving bright and early was recommended.

This year, more than 20,000 people came through the event between 10am and 4.30pm.

Committee member Rosie Romano said it took weeks and months of intense work to prepare the day.

“There’s the most amazing array of every Italian food that you can think of, and really high quality food — so we’re just really proud of what we’ve managed to pull together,” Ms Romano said.

“People started arriving from 8.30am — and a lot of our stallholders have come from Melbourne, and they say there’s such a beautiful feeling about this event.

“Over the years we’ve become friends and they’re like the best of family.”

Ms Romano added the Italian festa was a great way for stall owners to expand their businesses.

The Herald Sun took pictures at the festival and crowds got their pose on for photos.
