A young boy is in a stable condition after a collision on Phillip Island which took the life of his grandmother.

Update: The young boy travelling in the back seat of his grandmother’s car during a collision on Sunday is in a stable condition.

The boy was flown to hospital after his grandmother lost control of her car on Phillip Island Rd Sunday morning which, resulting in a three car collision.

Hi mother posted to Facebook on Tuesday her son was stable but was “lucky to be alive”.

She also posted a thank you to the first responders who rescued her son from the car.

Earlier Sunday: A three car collision has claimed the life of a woman on Phillip Island on Sunday morning.

Bass Coast Highway Patrol officers are now investigating the collision.

It is believed a white Nissan Pulsar was travelling along Phillip Island Road towards Cowes when the female driver lost control about 11.30am.

Her car then clipped a car towing a caravan before colliding head on with a Jeep.

The driver of the Nissan, a 63-year-old Wonthaggi woman, sadly died at the scene.

Her rear passenger, a nine-year-old boy, has been flown to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A man and woman in the car towing the caravan, were not injured.

The male driver of the Jeep, and sole occupant, was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Police are currently investigating the exact circumstances around the collision and investigations are ongoing.
