A man has been airlifted to hospital after crashing through a road barrier and into a tree on Friday morning.

A man has sustained serious injuries after crashing his car through a road barrier and into a tree early on Friday morning.

Emergency services rushed to respond to the incident, which occurred on the Princes Freeway at Moe about 6am.

The man first crashed into a barrier and then into a tree.

Emergency services arrived at the scene to find him trapped in his car.

Firefighters were able to free the man from the wreckage so he could be treated for his injuries.

He was airlifted to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Police are investigating what caused the crash.
