Victoria is being swept by high temperatures on Friday and with winds picking up, the CFA are urging people to stay aware of the fire danger rating in their local areas.
Victoria’s central district has been rated as ‘extreme’ fire danger for Friday with a total fire ban in place.
The north central district has been rated as a high fire danger but also has a total fire ban in place.
Under the total fire ban no fires can be lit or be allowed to remain alight in the open air from 12.01am on Friday, February 17, 2023 until 11.59pm Friday, February 17, 2023.
During a total fire ban you cannot have a BBQ, campfire or do any burning off. You can find out more about what you can and can’t do on total fire ban days here.
The Mallee, North East, Northern Country, South West, West and South Gippsland and Wimmera fire districts also have a high fire danger rating but no fire ban is currently in place as of 1pm Friday.
East Gippsland district remains at a moderate fire danger.
With temperatures set to reach 40C-plus in some parts of the state the CFA urges people to stay informed on the fire danger in their area.
“Ensure you have a plan, and reconsider travel through bushfire risk areas. Leaving bushfire risk areas early in the day is your safest option,” CFA said in a public statement on Friday.
