Grantville supermarket: Ritchies in strong discussions with developers

A Bass Coast town could soon have their wish for a supermarket granted with a major chain talking to developers.

Grantville is one step closer to scoring a long-awaited supermarket with one chain in “strong discussions” with developers.

Locals have been waiting for years for a supermarket to open in their waterline town with the closest one more than 20km away in San Remo.

Now residents wishes will be granted after the developers told The Bass Coast News they have secured a supermarket on the site.

Leading Edge Property Group managing director Travis Snow said they are in the early to mid stages of the development.

“We have got a couple of tenants that we have already locked away which is good,” he said.

“We are rapt but we don’t have signed leases just yet.”

Although Mr Snow wouldn’t disclose the supermarket chain he was in talks with, The Bass Coast News confirmed Ritchies was at the top of the list.

Chief executive officer Fred Harrison said plans for the 1531- 1545 Bass Highway site haven’t yet been finalised.

“We are in strong discussions with the developer, but at this point in time, nothing final has been signed off,” he said

“We remain hopeful.”

The proposal, which also includes a cafe, retail spaces, medical centre, pharmacy and service station, received full support from Bass Coast Shire councillors in December 2020.

Cr Claire Le Serve said it had been a long time coming.

“Good on the community for getting behind it,” she said.

“We have all acknowledged that Grantville is a great place and this will help build on that tradition.”

Mr Snow refused to comment when the development would open.

“We are fine tuning the building contract first.”
