The body of a woman who was swept off rocks at a rugged beach near Phillip Island has been found

It’s believed the woman was fishing on rocks with other people when she was washed into water near Phillip Island at 10.50am on Thursday.

Her body was found located by the Search and Rescue Squad in waters off Half Moon Bay about 7.30am Friday

The body is believed to be that of a 43-year-old Officer woman.

The area, around, Punch Bowl Rd, is notorious for drownings.

A local fisherman said the waves were strong on Thursday.

“It’s not worth your life for one little fish” he said.

Police will prepare a report for the Coroner.

On the same day, a girl, 7, was found unresponsive in a pool at Kyema Crescent property in San Remo at 1.15pm.

The child received medical assistance from paramedics at the property and was flown to the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne.

It comes after a two-year-old girl almost drowned after falling into a pond at Footscray Park on December 27.

The little girl on Thursday remained in a critical condition at the Royal Children’s Hospital.

Meanwhile, Christmas Day was marred by tragedy following the drowning deaths of a 29-year-old man at Newport Lakes Reserve and a 44-year-old man at Lake Wendouree in Ballarat.

Earlier this year, a man died at nearby Kilcunda after getting into trouble while snorkelling.

His death came days after police issued an appeal for information when six witnesses reported seeing an angler swept away by a wave while fishing at the popular spot.

In 2019, a man drowned at Kilcunda in front of his diving mates.

Local police, a police helicopter and members of Live Saving Victoria are at the scene.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or with information can call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or visit the website www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
