Two people have died in separate incidents in Victorian waterways on Saturday in a tragic start to the Easter long weekend.

Tragedy has marred the Easter long weekend, with two people drowning in separate incidents in Victorian waterways on Saturday.

A man’s body was found lodged among mangroves at the Tooradin Foreshore Reserve, about 65km southeast of Melbourne, about 10.20am.

Police cordoned off the boat ramp as three people, believed to be loved ones, were seen holding one another and crying before being ushered into a police car and escorted away from the reserve.

SES volunteers and paramedics attended the scene.

A police spokeswoman said the exact cause of death was yet to be determined but is not being treated as suspicious at this stage.

“Police will prepare a report for the coroner following the discovery of a deceased male in water near the boat ramp in Tooradin,” the spokeswoman said.

In a separate incident, a man believed to be in his 60s died after getting into trouble while snorkelling in the seaside town of Kilcunda, about 117km southeast of Melbourne.

A police spokesperson said the man was pulled from the water just after 2pm before rescuers performed CPR.

The man, who is yet to be formally identified, died at the scene.

Police said his death was not being treated as suspicious and investigators will prepare a report for the coroner.

In a third incident, a man and a woman required rescuing after slipping down a gorge at the Beechworth Historic Park about 1.30pm.

Ambulance Victoria said the woman, believed to be in her 20s, had suffered lacerations while a man believed to be in his 20s did not appear to be injured.

“It looks like there will be a high angle rescue to get these two people out of the gorge. Both are in a stable condition,” the spokeswoman said.
