A man has died after a garbage truck and a car collided in Dalyston on Tuesday.

Emergency services were called to the scene about 5.45am.

Sadly the male driver of the car died at the scene.

His female passenger was not injured and taken to hospital for observation.

Investigators have been told a car and a garbage truck collided head-on along the Bass Highway.

The truck driver, a 63-year-old man, was not injured and is assisting police with their enquiries.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the collision are continuing.

Bass Coast Shire Council confirmed there were no significant delays in waste services on Tuesday, with one to two hours maximum delay.

“All waste collections were completed yesterday as planned and have resumed today as per normal.

There were a handful of hard rubbish collections scheduled later this week which have been rescheduled to early next week.”
