An East Gippsland man led police on a lengthy chase in fears he would be busted driving without a licence.

An East Gippsland man sped away from police in fear they would catch him driving without a licence, leading them on a lengthy chase.

Kody Hunt, 30, faced the Bairnsdale Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday and pleaded guilty to failing to stop on police direction and unlicensed driving.

At 1am on August 19 last year, police saw Hunt driving on Bailey St in Bairnsdale and activated their sirens signalling him to pull over.

However, Hunt instead increased his speed and sped away with police discontinued their chase, where they later made inquiries and confirmed his identity, discovering his licence was suspended.

A couple of days later police arrived at Hunt’s home, where he told them he was aware police were behind him at the time, but couldn’t pull over due to being afraid of getting caught without a licence.

The court heard Hunt was cooperative with police.

Magistrate Tim Walsh placed Hunt on an adjourned undertaking for three months.
