Driver killed in crash with truck on the Strzelecki Hwy, Hernes Oak

A driver has been killed in a collision with a truck on a busy highway in the Latrobe Valley.

A driver has been killed in a collision with a truck on a busy country highway in the state’s southeast.

Emergency services responded to reports of the crash on the Strzelecki Hwy in Hernes Oak — between Moe and Morwell — just before 9am on Thursday.

Witnesses immediately came to the assistance of the driver of a black Holden Cruze, a 93-year-old Morwell man, but he died at the scene.

“The driver of the truck, a 29-year-old Gippsland man, was not injured and remained at the scene,” a police spokesperson said.

“The exact circumstances surrounding the collision are yet to be determined.”

Authorities remained on scene, with police controlling traffic.

The crash has taken the state road toll to 119, compared to 129 lives lost on Victorian roads this time last year.

Emergency services were also called to a crash on Rogers St and Commercial Rd in Yarram on Thursday.

An Ambulance Victoria spokesperson said one person was taken to the Traralgon Public Hospital.

Another crash took place on the Princes Hwy about 9.30pm on Thursday, where a woman was taken to hospital with critical injuries and the driver of the second vehicle is assisting police and was also taken to hospital.
