A French national has been charged with causing the death of a 78-year-old woman in a crash in the state’s southwest at the weekend.
The fatal collision occurred in Heathmere, north of Portland, about 6.35pm on Saturday night.
Police allege a Hyundai Kona wagon and a Toyota HiLux collided on the Princes Hwy, killing the 78-year-old Portland woman driving the former vehicle.
The ute driver and his passenger, both 20-year-old male French nationals, were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Detectives charged the driver with dangerous driving causing death on Sunday, and he was bailed to appear at Warrnambool Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
