His daughter, Detective Senior Constable Sophie Thomson, attended the crime scene of her father’s death as she drove to work that morning.

She stopped to help but was ushered away when those on scene realised it was her father who had died.

In Ballarat Magistrates Court on Thursday, Spark pleaded guilty to failing to stop after a fatal accident, failing to render assistance after a fatal accident, and driving in a manner dangerous causing death.

Ms Thomson and Mr Thomson’s son were present during the hearing.

Spark will remain in custody and appear in County Court for sentencing at a later date.
