A Ballarat father hit and killed while riding his bike has been remembered as an “absolute gentleman” by family and friends.

David Thomson, 60, died on Thursday when he was struck by a yet to be identified driver in Delacombe, about an hour from Melbourne.

Mr Thomson was a popular community man who worked as a delivery driver at Eureka Concrete.

His employer said he was a “loyal and loved employee”.

He is survived by his wife Ann and two children, Dylan and Sophie.

In a moving tribute to his father, Dylan said he was taken from the family “too soon in a horrible situation”.

“He was an absolute gentleman with a heart of gold and will be dearly missed by everyone he met,” he posted to social media.

“We will strive to make him proud every day and make sure his legacy lives on.

“I‘m going to miss you man.”

Mr Thomson was also a popular member of the North Ballarat Cricket Club.

“It is with much sadness we acknowledge the tragic passing of former player and administrator David Thomson,” the club said in a statement.

“David joined our club in the twilight of his playing career and played in our 4th XI premiership in 2013/14.

“He was also a member of our committee for a number of years and was the recipient of the Ron Hall Memorial Best Club-Person award in 2015/16 and 2017/18.

“In addition, he had also been a member of the BCA (Ballarat Cricket Association) Pennant Committee since 2014/15.”
