An Alfredton man accused of mowing down and killing a popular Ballarat father in an alleged hit-run has briefly faced court.
Bradley Spark briefly faced Ballarat Magistrates’ Court via video link on charges including culpable driving causing death, failing to stop and failing to render assistance for a filing hearing on Thursday afternoon.
The 39-year-old was arrested last night in Ballarat East in relation to the death of David Thomson, 60, who he is alleged to have been struck while riding his bike to work on Thursday last week.
Following his arrest, detectives from MCIU and Ballarat Crime Investigation Unit executed a search warrant at a property in Lacys Road, Ross Creek.
Detectives located and seized a silver Mitsubishi sedan, firearms and stolen property.
Defence lawyer Sarah Pratt said her client had booked a bail application for next week and was remanded in custody until that date.
Mr Thomson was well known in Ballarat, working as a delivery driver at Eureka Concrete and was a popular member of the North Ballarat Cricket Club.
Tragically his daughter, Detective Senior Constable Sophie Thomson, unknowingly attended the crime scene of her father’s death as she drove to work last Thursday.
She stopped at the scene to help but was ushered away when those on scene realised it was her father who had died.
“I had unknowingly attended my dad’s own crime scene. Please imagine for a second what it would have been like,” she said.
A committal mention for the mention has been listed for April next year.
A hand-up brief must be served by March.
